SVA Architects wins 4 merit awards in Gold Nugget design competition
It earned awards for projects in California and Italy, including an Anaheim sustainability center, a San Jose school modernization and student housing near USC.

SVA Architects received four Awards of Merit at this year's Gold Nugget Awards, one of the building industry's most prominent design competitions, recognizing projects ranging from an environmental education center in Anaheim to a resort development in Italy.
The awards were presented July 29 during the Pacific Coast Builders Conference at the Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center in Chula Vista, where finalists competed for Grand Awards. The Gold Nugget Awards recognize excellence in architecture, planning and development across the United States and internationally.
SVA Architects extended its streak of Gold Nugget recognition to 12 consecutive years.
More than 800 projects were entered in 68 categories this year, with Awards of Merit selected by a panel of industry professionals before Grand Award winners were announced.
SVA earned recognition in four categories.
The architecture firm's design for the city of Anaheim's Sustainability Education Center received an Award of Merit for Best Special Use Project. Developed by the city and built by Oltmans Construction Co., the facility is designed to provide hands-on exhibits focused on environmental education, resource conservation and workforce development in sustainability.
SVA's modernization of Building K at Oak Grove High School in San Jose received an Award of Merit for Best Educational Project, excluding housing. Developed by the East Side Union High School District and constructed by Alten Construction, the project combines food service, student gathering areas and presentation space in a redesigned campus hub.
In Los Angeles, Tessera, a student housing development near the University of Southern California designed by SVA, earned an Award of Merit for Best Student or Faculty Housing. Developed by Mosaic Investment Partners and built by Alpha Construction Co., the project features transit-oriented housing and amenities designed for students.
SVA's fourth recognition came in the Best International Commercial and Special Use Project category for Pietra Mare - Resort, Hotel + Villas in Bari, Italy. Developed by Coastal Rim Properties, the resort combines hotel accommodations and private villas with architecture inspired by the Mediterranean coast.
SVA Architects CEO Ernesto M. Vasquez said the awards reflect the firm's collaboration with clients and project partners across a range of building types.
