A new boutique hotel backed by Hilton has opened in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter.
The Margot Hotel, which debuted May 7, is among the first properties in Hilton's new Outset Collection, a lifestyle brand aimed at highlighting independently minded hotels with strong local character.
The 135-suite property sits near Petco Park and the San Diego Convention Center. Hilton describes the Outset Collection as a way to showcase "storyrich hotels" that maintain their individuality while gaining access to the company's global network and its Hilton Honors loyalty program.
Elizabeth Scruggs, brand leader for the Outset Collection, said the new hotel reflects what travelers want from urban destinations.
"The Margot Hotel is a strong addition to our growing portfolio," she said in a statement. "The Outset Collection was designed to reflect how today's travelers want to experience a destination in a thoughtful, locally rooted and connected way. Located in San Diego's Gaslamp neighborhood, the Margot delivers just that with a sense of place that is both authentic and story-led."
The Margot features residentialstyle suites with full kitchens, open layouts and floor-to-ceiling windows. The hotel leans heavily into a personalized, neighborhood-driven approach, with staff offering curated local recommendations and partnerships with nearby businesses. Cloud 9 food service provides in-room delivery from local restaurants, and a lobby bar is expected to open soon.
Amenities include an eighth-floor terrace with a fire pit and outdoor dining, a 24-hour fitness center, pet-friendly rooms and sustainability touches such as reusable water bottles and reduced single-use plastics.
The hotel is managed by Ensemble, which oversees operations while maintaining the property's independent feel. Kristi Allen, Ensemble's executive vice president of hotels, said the Margot embodies the type of property the Outset Collection was designed to support.
Hilton said more than 60 Outset Collection hotels are in development across the United States, ranging from urban boutiques to adventure-focused destinations.
