PowerFlex, a San Diego-based clean technology company, has acquired the Mobility House North America in a transaction that combines two companies specializing in electric vehicle charging, fleet electrification and energy management.
The acquisition was completed through a share exchange, with The Mobility House becoming a minority shareholder in the combined company, PowerFlex announced.
The deal is expected to expand PowerFlex's capabilities in fleet charging and vehicle-to-grid technology as demand grows for electric transportation across North America.
PowerFlex provides electric vehicle charging, solar, battery storage and energy management systems for commercial and public-sector customers. The Mobility House North America specializes in charging management and vehicle-grid integration for transit agencies, school districts, and fleet operators.
"This combination is exactly the kind of strategic step the fleet electrification market needs at this moment," PowerFlex CEO Raphael Declercq said in a statement.
Declercq said the companies will be able to offer customers a broader range of electrification and energy services, he said.
The Mobility House North America has particular expertise in electrifying public transit and school bus fleets, while PowerFlex has worked with large commercial fleets, including last-mile delivery, municipal and utility operators.
The combined company plans to expand vehicle-to-grid and vehicle-to-building applications that allow electric vehicles and their batteries to serve as energy resources for buildings and electric grids.
Customers of the Mobility House North America will also gain access to PowerFlex's engineering and project development capabilities, public charging services and energy management platform. PowerFlex's experience with commercial solar and energy storage could provide additional options for fleet operators seeking to reduce energy costs and emissions, according to the companies.
"This combination is the start of an exciting new chapter," Mobility House North America CEO Gregor Hintler said in a statement.
Hintler, who has led the North American company since its founding as an independent entity, and much of his team will join PowerFlex. The companies said the move is intended to provide continuity for customers, partners and other business relationships.
The companies plan to integrate their software platforms over time, creating a unified customer experience and adding AI-driven features. Existing customer operations and services are expected to continue during the integration.
PowerFlex said it manages more than 70,000 EV chargers nationwide. The company also has more than 500 megawatts of installed commercial solar capacity and more than 50 megawatt-hours of battery energy storage.
